This educational event will focus on the clinical management of psoriasis in pediatric patients. After a brief review of the epidemiology and unique clinical presentation of psoriasis in children and adolescents, the discussion will address comorbid inflammatory conditions and psychosocial comorbidities in this patient population. The expert panel will review the current guideline recommendations for treatment of psoriasis in pediatric patients, the role of systemic therapies, and considerations for their use in children and adolescents.

Dr. Elaine Siegfried is board-certified in Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatology
  • Dr. Siegfried is Professor of Pediatrics and Dermatology in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Dermatology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Siegfried is a past president and director of the American Board of Dermatology. She serves on the editorial board of Dermatology Times. Her memberships include the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, the American Academy of Dermatology, the National Eczema Association and The National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias.
  • Dr. Siegfried diagnoses and treats skin-related disorders in infants and children. She specializes in treatments for atopic dermatitis and other eczemas, psoriasis, and vascular birthmarks, and participates in clinical trials for new treatments for eczema and psoriasis. Dr. Siegfried is interested in research investigating atopic dermatitis and pediatric drug development.
Dr. Wynnis Tom is board-certified in Dermatology
  • Dr. Wynnis Tom is a dermatologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and a professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Pediatrics at UC San Diego.
  • Dr. Tom cares for patients in the Severe Inflammatory Dermatoses/Systemic Therapy Clinic. Her special clinical interests include chronic inflammatory skin disorders, particularly atopic dermatitis (eczema) and psoriasis, and managing patients with diseases that require oral or systemic medicines. Her research focuses on the genetic factors contributing to these difficult-to-treat diseases, patient response to treatment, and complications such as secondary infections and cardiac health risks.
Dr. Amy Paller is board-certified in Pediatrics, Dermatology, and Pediatric Dermatology
  • Dr. Paller is Chair of the Department of Dermatology, Director of Skin Biology and Disease Resource-Based Center, and Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
  • As a pediatric dermatologist, Dr. Paller specializes in genetic and immune-mediated inflammatory in children. As director of pediatric dermatology clinical research, Dr. Paller has led almost 100 clinical trials. Her most recent translational research has: a) defined the immunophenotypes in early atopic dermatitis in children, paving the way for targeted therapy; b) discovered the immune dysregulation that may lead to inflamed skin in the ichthyoses, leading to a novel clinical trial with repurposed medication; and c) discovered evidence for an important role for ganglioside GM3 as an intermediate in the insulin resistance in diabetic skin and also in development of diabetic neuropathy.
